Field Trips & Events

Welcome to the BOSS Field Trips & Events page!  Below you will see a list of currently active field trips or upcoming events where you can meet BOSS teachers and students.  Field trips are a great opportunity for students to meet with their fellow class mates and see some very interesting places.  We attempt at least one field trip in each area of the state, so keep a close eye on this page for a field trip coming near you!  We encourage all families to register for spots quickly as they can go fast for some of our more popular locations.

COSI Field Trip - November 2

Where:
333 West Broad Street Columbus, OH 43215-2738
When: 
Wednesday - November 2, 2016 from 10:30am–2:00pm

The cost is $5.00 per BOSS student.  Family and friends are $10.00 each.

Sign in is from 10:30am-11:30am, that includes COSI Members.  If you arrive after sign in time you will have to pay the regular rate.

All BOSS students and guests are welcome!  All families that plan to attend our field trip to COSI must submit money orders or checks no later than October 31.  If we do not have 10 students RSVP by October 24 we will be forced to cancel.

You may bring a sack lunch.  We will be eating at 1:00pm in the lunch area. There are places to buy food if you want.

The parking fee is $5.00 for each car.  You must take the ticket to the box office to be validated.  The parking lot in front of COSI is under construction right now and they do not know when it will be completed, so you may have to park in another lot.

Magical Theatre – A Charlie Brown Christmas

Where:
565 West Tuscarawas Avenue, Barberton, OH 44203
When: 
Wednesday - December 14, 2016 from 11:45am to 1:30pm

Please plan to arrive 20-25 minutes prior to the performance. The theatre will not open until 30 minutes before the performance. We must be in our seats by 12:00pm. There is no seating after the performance starts.

Buckeye Online School for Success will pay for our students to attend the performance; family and friends are $6.00 each. We will have a limited amount of tickets so make your reservation ASAP!  Your reservation will only be secure after we receive your payment.

Randy’s Raisings - Hay Ride and Corn Maze

Where: 50462 Calcutta Smith Ferry Road, Calcutta, OH 43920
When:  Wednesday - October 5, 2016 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm
Cost:   $3.00 for each BOSS Student.  Family members are $10.00 each.

We will be meeting at Randy’s Raisings at 10:30am.
  The Field Trip includes a corn maze, hay ride, and each student will receive a small pumpkin to take home. All families that plan to attend our field trip to Randy’s Raisings must submit money orders or checks no later than October 3, 2016. There will be no refunds on field trips unless BOSS cancels.  All returned checks will be charged the current returned check fee. If we do not have 15 students RSVP we will be forced to cancel.

State Testing (April 12th-15th)

All students 3rd-8th grades and high school students currently enrolled in Algebra, Geometry, English 1, English 2, Biology, American History, and Government courses will be taking this year's state tests starting April 12th. All students in these grade levels should have received a letter with their testing location, date, and times. If you have not received this letter or you have a scheduling conflict please call your school's secretary as soon as possible.

Lou Holtz Upper Valley Hall of Fame - ** SOLD OUT **


Where: 120 East Fifth Street, East Liverpool, OH  43920
When:  May 11, 2016 (Wednesday) from 10:15am to 1:00pm

This field trip is free to all BOSS students and family members.

The Lou Holtz Upper Ohio Valley Hall of Fame is located right across the street from BOSS, so we will sign in here first between 10:15am and 10:45am, then go across the street for the tour.

When the tour is finished, we will return to BOSS for a pizza party and visit with our teachers.

St. Helena III Canal Boat Ride
- ** SOLD OUT **

Where: St. Helena Park, Canal Fulton, OH 44614.  Use 136 Cherry St. W, Canal Fulton, OH 44614 for GPS, which is across the street.
When:  May 25, 2016 (Wednesday) from 12:00pm to 2:30pm

We will ride a replica canal boat, the St. Helena III, pulled by two Persian horses, down the original sections of the Ohio & Erie Canal.  Riders will pass the McLaughlin Dry dock, where the boat is stored for the winter and continues down to Lock IV to the turnaround basin.  During the one hour trip the crew steers with rudder and poles, while an on board historian provides facts and stories of life during the Canal Era.  After the boat ride we will visit the Old Canal Days Museum and the restored St. Helena II.  Also, there is a DVD presentation entitled Our Canal Heritage. 

BOSS will pay for BOSS students to attend.  Family members will be $5.00 each.  Sign-in will be from 12:15pm-12:30pm.  Our boat will leave at 12:30pm. The boat ride is one hour, the museum is 20 minutes, and the DVD runs for 30 minutes.

National Museum of the United States Air Force - CANCELED

Due to the lack of student response, we are forced to cancel the field trip to the Air Force Museum on April 6, 2016.  We still have the Lou Holtz Hall of Fame field trip on May 11, 2016, and a few seats left for the Canal Fulton field trip on May 25, 2016.

This is a skating party.  All BOSS Students and family members are welcome to attend.

2015 NHS Induction Ceremony

Sunday, October 25, 2015, the BOSS chapter of National Honor Society held their sixth annual inductions at the Ohio State Capitol in Columbus.  Senior NHS members were on hand to induct the sixteen new members. 

NHS Historian Makenzie Healy served as master of ceremony. 

NHS members Holly Caldwell, Miranda Carr, Hannah Weingart, and Katherine Kreigh performed the traditional candle lighting ceremony. 

BOSS Director, Don Thompson served as guest speaker.  He encouraged the new and returning members to continue their hard work and dedication to community and academics. 

Also present were High School Principal Andrea Dobbins, Assistant Principal Frank Mader, and NHS Advisor Jeannette Bailey.Prior to the induction ceremony, students and their guests partook in a guided tour of the beautiful and historic capitol. 

The ceremony adjourned to a cookie and punch reception in the picturesque rotunda. 

National Honor Society members are selected based on the four pillars it was founded on -- scholarship, leadership, character, and service.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum

Where: 751 Erieside Ave.  Cleveland, OH 44114
When:  Wednesday, December 9, 2015 - 10:00am to 1:00pm

This field trip is for BOSS students, family, and friends.  You must RSVP to Vicki Zook by December 4th and your payment must be received by BOSS by the 6th.  Prices are listed below. We will sign in between 10:00am and 10:30am and then enter as a group.  Anyone arriving after 10:30am will have to pay full price.  When you RSVP, please let Vicki know the BOSS student's name and age.  Also, if any non–BOSS students are attending, she will need their age.

Prices:
BOSS students ages 8 and under - free 
BOSS students ages 9-18 - $6.00 each
All non-BOSS students - $12.00 each
All adults - $17.75 each

YMCA - Calcutta Branch


Where: 15655 State Route 170, East Liverpool, OH  43920
When: Thursday, November 19, 2015 - 1:00pm to 3:00pm

This field trip is for all BOSS students, family, and friends.  Buckeye Online School will pay for BOSS students, while friends and family are $4.00 each.  If you are a YMCA member and are attending please bring your YMCA ID to get in for free.  We will need a parent signature for the YMCA and Buckeye Online School permission slips for each student to attend.

The use of the pool and gym will be available for us.  Everyone who uses the pool must wear a bathing suit.  There are no shorts or shirts allowed in the pool, per YMCA policy.

Pizza and drinks will be served.
